A Look Back at 2013

Looking Back

Last year I started my look back post with, “Oh what a year it has been!”. If only I had known what was in store for 2013! You can read my 2013 Travel in Review post, but the jist is I flew 110,624 miles in 2013 and visited 6 new countries. I am very near to publishing my 200th photo on the site and continue to press forward with print sales and commercial licensing to help finance this crazy business.

Travels in 2013

I basically went all over:

Geneva, Switzerland
Barcelona, Spain
San Francisco, CA
Honolulu, Hawaii
Seattle, WA
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Orlando, FL
Tulsa, OK
Kansas City, MO
Columbia, MO
London, England
Chicago, IL
Shanghai, China
Kansas City, MO (again)
Tokyo, Japan

Future Travels

I already have a number of places booked for 2014. I am planning on flying another 100,000+ miles with American Airlines this year, and I have another 40,000 or so worth of award tickets purchased. Time is forever my biggest obstacle, if only there were a way to slow down the sands.

Some of 2014

Currently I have planned:

Oahu, Hawaii
Venice, Italy
Hong Kong
Round the World (I am only flying east and all the way around)
Portland, OR
Milan, Italy
San Francisco, CA

Glimpses

I have been searching for something…I am not sure exactly what, but I know it’s out there waiting for me. That probably sounds odd. It sounds odd to me, but am a compelled to travel, to photograph, to learn. One day perhaps I will find my allusive MacGuffin, but until then I will continue my search, weary, but thankful all the same.

Progress

Going back through my photos to do this post, I found I felt good about my progress in photography this year. Photography is one of those skills you can never know too much about, but at a certain point hopefully it becomes second nature. There are so many things I want to learn. Here is again where time works against me, but I can’t let that hold me back.

Playing Favorites

If I had to choose one photo from the last year, it would be this one of Big Ben.
